What’s our history?

Everyone has a history. I know we all know this. The only people who don’t have a history are amnesiacs, and that is a terrible situation to be in.

The Presbyterian Church in Canada (PCC) turned 150 a few months ago, in June, to be exact. It was left up to individual congregations when to celebrate this milestone, or to celebrate it at all, and St. Mark’s Presbyterian decided to celebrate it today. A century and a half is worth noting, so I am glad we decided to.

The sermon is still a sermon; it is not, as might have been a danger when I was a younger person, a history lecture. Of course, I talked a bit about the history of the denomination because it is important for each of us to know where we came from and also where the organizations we support came from. (I know that last sentence wasn’t that great, but it will have to do.) The scripture texts I chose from the list of suggestions for the anniversary (birthday?) service line up very nicely with some thoughts about how the PCC recognized the need for itself.

As always, I would love to hear what you think. Drop me a line as you are able and inclined.
