More wisdom

I don’t mind using the same picture two Sundays in a row, so I used this one again.
As I mentioned at the beginning of today’s sermon, September in Lectionary Year B is almost wisdom month. There is nothing wrong with spending some time with the idea and reality of wisdom.
I think the primary thing I want people to take from this sermon is the reminder that wisdom and human cleverness/talent/experience/ability are not the same. At all. I mention the kinds of people we put on pedestals. I don’t think our culture considers them wise but they are often role models or exemplars. My suggestion is they are mostly bad role models. We need to find wise people to model ourselves after. I wish I had a directory for you but I don’t. There are some public figures I feel are worth following for wisdom, Fr. Richard Rohr, Rev. Nadia Bolz-Weber, and a few others. These folks work for me but might not for you and that’s okay! Find the people who help you be the best version of yourself in the ways Jesus considers important and listen to them
I hope this sermon helps you to look for and find the wisdom you need to make our weird, beautiful, divisive, grace-filled, world make sense.
