Words From the Middle

At the intersection of Sacred and Profane

2014/06/15

Let’s discuss the Trinity

So why on earth would we want to spend any time talking about the Trinity? It is hard to understand and when you begin to understand it at all you realize that there are parts of it that you will never understand, because no one understands it all. The Trinity is fundamentally beyond us in the same way eternity is fundamentally beyond us so why bother? Simple. The parts that are not beyond us are wonderful and inform our view of God and even each other!

The doctrine of the Trinity is not just our attempt to square the circle of the monothesism of Deuteronomy 6 with the baptismal formula of Jesus in Matthew 28 rather it is our grappling with the fundamental relationality of God; a relationality that began before the beginning of anything.

The sermons this week are specifically addressing what the three-in-0ne nature of the Trinity says to us regarding the value of relationship and relationships.

Father’s Day actually shows up in at least one of the sermons I haven’t changed my mind about secular “days” of celebration but it seemed to work.

These links are to the attachment page again, I’ll keep putting these here until it seems that they are either identical to the links above or not needed.
