Pentecost is one of those events that has some aspects that are so striking that some of the other, perhaps even more, significant bit s are lost. Many people are familiar at some level with the story of Pentecost: the tongues of fire, the indoor wind storm, people hearing in their own language words spoken by people who don’t speak that language, accusations of early morning drunkenness, etc. Most of these things are extraordinary, the early morning drunkenness bit is depressingly ordinary, and their very extraordinary-ness can easily blind us to the MOST extraordinary thing that happened that day.
Up until Pentecost you can make a pretty good case that the path to and from God was mediated by a limited number of people, judges, prophets, kings, disciples, priests and such. If you wanted to interact with God you could certainly do so in prayer but there was something essentially hierarchical about the whole process. With Pentecost that all ended. Pentecost ushered in the era where everyone was gifted by the Holy Spirit and everyone became equally vital to the health and well being of the church.

I received a request that these sermons be made available in MP3 format rather than Flash so I am going to try to do that very thing. The links below which as I enter them look identical to the ones above are ostensibly links to an attachment page. If someone would be so kind as to let me know if they are any better, worse or just more of the same I would appreciate it.
