How does that make sense?

There are a lot of things that don’t make sense to me. This isn’t because I’m unusually dense, at least I don’t think so, it comes rather from a lifetime of observing the world in a particular (perhaps peculiar) way and trying to make sense of what I’ve seen. There have been a multitude of political decisions made by sensible people I found completely baffling. Some of my friends have made relational choices equally baffling.

The season of Lent is a season which doesn’t always make sense. This Sunday I found myself looking at the story of Abraham and Sarah having children incredibly late in life and St. Paul saying, in Romans, “where there is no law, neither is there violation” (Romans 4:15 NRSV). Neither of these things is what I’d call common (or any) sense. I wrestled with the idea, and the sermon was the result. As always, let me know what you think as you are able and inclined.
