He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!
There are very few call and response moments that I actually enjoy but that is one of the very best. Today is Easter Sunday, the best day of the year bar none. As I may have mentioned more than once in these posts or to any of you in person, I am not in any noticeable way, gifted with doing the “Time with children” in the service. However, talking to them about why Easter Sunday is the best day of the year, better than my birthday, better than Christmas, was one of the easiest and most enjoyable children’s times I have ever done. If birthdays and Christmas are all about presents, the gift of the Risen Christ is so much superior to any other gift . . . it just makes for the best day possible.
Today began with a bit more frenzy than I would have preferred, we hit the road late and ended up at Knox late which had more of an effect that I might have predicted. I’m not saying anything about the two sermons other than to note that while each began at the same place the ended up in slightly different places; different but (I hope) of similar value.
Richest blessings,
Barry
Ah my brother, I’ve been enjoying your sermons very much the last couple of days. I don’t know if it’s just a particularly tender time of the year, Easter is always a bit emotional for me I find, but I was moved to tears by your recounting of Mary searching for the Master’s body. Particularly when Jesus helps her to ‘see’ him. The incredible nature of that revelation has never been as personally meaningful as it was today when I heard it again for the first time. Perhaps hearing is as amenable to dysfunction as sight.
Thank you for a great one!
