Words From the Middle

At the intersection of Sacred and Profane

2022/07/10

Familiar but still worth looking at

There are many stories in the Bible that church-going folks know well. There are a few that everyone either knows or has heard something about. The story of the Good Samaritan is one of those stories. By the way, the “everyone” in the statement above really means, “those in a Western or Western-influenced context.”

The bare bones of the story are well-known, so well known it crossed my mind to preach on something else this Sunday, but . . . . The thing is, I frequently find a new way to look at a familiar story if I’m willing to spend some time with it. I tried it this week, you will have to let me know if I pointed out a new way to look at or think about the Good Samaritan.

A quick reminder, there is only one sermon for this Sunday and the rest of the Sundays in July as Knox Presbyterian is not having services.

“Are we a neighbour?” St. Mark’s Presbyterian (to download, right-click and select “Save Link As . . .”)

Blessings,
