One of those days?
The sermon today is drawn from the common phrase, it’s “one of those days.” I can’t speak for anyone but myself but I don’t find myself describing days where good thing follows good thing follows good thing as “one of those days.” The phrase seems to be saved for days where it is bad thing after bad thing. I went another step, when it hit me that a day filled with confusion and uncertainty might very well be called “one of those days.”
If there is a day in the church year that might be characterized as being filled with confusion and uncertainty it is today. Today is Palm/Passion Sunday, a Sunday where we combine what used to be called Palm Sunday, with nothing added, with Good Friday. This is a mash up, if you will, of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and his crucifixion. These two events do not combine easily or even at all. Mix them together and you don’t get a solution but an emulsion that tries to separate into the two components.
What I was hoping to do with this sermon was provide some comfort for the struggle of this day and to talk about how it is completely human and completely okay to not know what to do with Palm/Passion Sunday. As always, let me know what you think as you are inclined and able.
