Words From the Middle

At the intersection of Sacred and Profane

2015/02/01

Some things are hard

I know that the title of this blog post is one that could be taken several ways. I hasten to add that this is not a “tell-all” post where I relate things that are going on in my life that are hard (I’m not promising that I won’t write such a post in the future, this just isn’t one).

This Sunday’s sermons are about us dealing with some of the complexities of being Christ followers. They are also about what it means when we move from a simplistic, and frequently impossible, idea of what it means to live out our relationship with God through Christ to a more mature, dare I even say nuanced, understanding. The sermons are drawn from the Lectionary’s epistle lesson, 1 Corinthians 8:1-13. It is easy, and even tempting, to suggest that what Paul is suggesting is either easy or impossible and neither are true; what Paul is suggesting is hard.

Let me know what you think about whether I’m on to something with saying this is hard.

Blessings,
