Who does God use?

Today is Fathers’ Day and I can’t say I found much to say about fathers in the texts . . . at least nothing particularly complimentary. So instead I decided to look at the broader context of all our texts and I found myself asking the question, which is the sermon title to no one’s surprise, “Who does God use?”

As questions go, this one has some importance. So who does God use? Is usefulness to God limited to those who have gone to schools for theology and biblical studies and ecclesiology and . . . all the rest? Is usefulness to God limited to those who have had a profound and punctiliar experience of God? Thankfully the answer is a short one and it is, “no.”

God uses those people who are willing to do what God needs to be done. The things God needs done include sermons and Bible study(ies) but it also includes holding the door for a stranger, giving money to those who need it without attaching any string, being kind to people who may not be worth it. God uses the willing and fortunately, being willing takes no training only a state of mind.

As always, let me know what you think as your are inclined and able.
