Oh! So it’s wisdom!

This Sunday’s sermon is a little different. There was sufficient illness in the congregation so the decision was made to cancel the in-person service and go with a Zoom-only service. This means broadcasting from my home. This is not a particular difficulty; this is what we did for the COVID-19 pandemic. I mention this, not because it makes a tremendous difference to you but as the beginning of explaining why this sermon is so scattered. I work very hard at not apologizing for sermons because they are what they are (a phrase I don’t care for but it fits here). However, there are exceptions to most rules, even non-rules like this one.
The combination of being at home coupled with some pernicious sound problems had me unsettled. A word of explanation about the sound issues. First of all, they do not affect the sermon. Second, they came about due to there being three volume controls to try and get into sync—Zoom’s audio level, VLC’s (the media player) audio level, and the audio level of my laptop. I haven’t had this difficulty before but there is a first time for most things so I was adjusting one or the other during the singing of the hymns. I was a bit frazzled it seems.
The somewhat less clearly coherent sermon is a discussion of how wisdom is different than intelligence and cleverness and while we all have some, there is a spiritual gift of wisdom too. Listen to the sermon and as always, let me know what you think as you are inclined and able. I won’t be offended in any way at any remarks, certainly not about how atypical this one is.
Blessings,
