Words From the Middle

At the intersection of Sacred and Profane

2019/06/23

Listening

Listening. Something we all do, to a greater or lesser degree depending on what’s on offer.

Listening. It is easy unless you have a physical issue of some sort.

Listening. We always hear what is there to be heard . . . or do we?

This Sunday there is only one sermon as today was a joint service with the folks from Knox making the trek from Briercrest to Moose Jaw to join St. Mark’s. It was lovely to see all these people at the same time. We celebrated Holy Communion together and ate hot dogs, salads, desserts, and the like afterward.

All of which is well and good but what did you you say about us not hearing what is there to be heard? What do you mean? What I mean is we tend to hear what we expect to hear and not just the content of the communication, I’m willing to go further and say we don’t hear if we aren’t expecting to hear from a particular source. Confused? I hope not but if you are, I think the 15 minutes or so in this sermon will make it more clear. Let me know if it doesn’t and I’ll do my best to help you out.
