Words From the Middle

At the intersection of Sacred and Profane

2023/02/05

Let’s talk “influence” shall we?

We talked about influence last week and we are continuing to do so this week. I don’t mind revisiting topics, I know I frequently profit from going over things again.

I might have gone a different way if I hadn’t encountered an online advertisement for an opportunity to be certified as a “professional influencer.” If we have reached this stage of “development,” or regression, I think it might be worth discussing again.

The other thing we are looking at today is Jesus’ enigmatic words, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.” (Matthew 5:17 NRSV) The similarities between this week’s Old Testament and Gospel lessons are striking to say the very least.

Let me know what you think about the remarks regarding influence or fulfilling prophets.
