Faith and Hebrews 11 – take 1

Faith. Such a common word we use it without giving it a second thought but do we really know what it means? The answer to the rhetorical question is, yes. We do know what the word faith means but that doesn’t mean we can’t revisit it now and then. The Lectionary has us in Hebrews 11 today and next Sunday and considering the nickname for this chapter is the “Faith Chapter” this seems like a good time to look at faith again.

The sermons look at faith through the experience of Abram. In case it has slipped your mind, God promised Abram descendants, as many descendants as there are stars in the sky. This promise came when Abram had no physical descendants and when the promise was reiterated Abram was 99 years old and his wife Sarai was 89 or 90 and still had no physical descendants. But Abram was considered faithful by the author of Hebrews, how do we grapple with that? Give the sermons a listen and let me know what you think.
