Where do we belong? An interesting question that has so many potential answers.
This Sunday’s texts had so many fruitful possibilities but the phrase I kept coming back to was “They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.” (John 15:17 NRSV) If we don’t belong in the world, then where do we belong? The sermon is an attempt to answer this question.
The sound of sermon is a little different this week because the service was in a different place. This Sunday was the annual church picnic / barbecue / joint-service get together where Knox and St. Mark’s worship with each other in the town of Briercrest, where Knox is located. This Sunday we eschewed the church building for the community centre because the church has steps and the community centre does not. We had a wonderful turnout and as such I had to speak quite a bit louder than usual to reach the back of the hall. We had a bunch of extra children so you might hear some of their contributions too 🙂
It was a delightful service and I hope some of the joy that was there makes it into the “feel” of the words of the sermon.
Knox and St. Mark’s Presbyterian Where do we belong?
Part of the reason for the increased turn out was the bribe of both of my grandchildren coming to the service so I think that might have helped some of the St. Mark’s people off the fence about making the trek out of town.
Blessings,
