Of course, we’re children! But whose?

Being a child is a universal experience. For most of us, who our parent is or parents are is pretty straightforward. It is interesting to see people who know our parent(s) pick us out as their child. We sometimes have physical similarities, similar ways of talking, moving, or other things “shared” with our parents. The point is, most of the time there is a resemblance between parent(s) and child.

Today’s sermon is considering what it means to be a child of God and what kinds of resemblances there might be between divine parent and human child. I’ll “bury the lede” by telling you right off, I think there is. What might some of these similarities or resemblances be? Give the sermon a listen and let me know if I identified them sufficiently for you.

There is only one sermon this week as Knox Presbyterian did not have a service this Sunday.

Also, there will probably not be a recorded sermon next week. I will not be in the pulpit but will be in northern Saskatchewan being a camp chaplain.

    Community and life

The texts this week led me in a different direction than I think I have ever gone for this Liturgical week. The most “obvious” directions to go are usually following/obeying the Law (Psalm 1), how the apostles worked with the Holy Spirit to replace Judas Iscariot (Acts 1:15-17, 21-26), eternal life (1 John 5:9-13), or…

    Parts to play

Last Sunday we talked about spiritual gifts and what they might be and which gifts we might have and why. This Sunday we are going into more depth about the why of spiritual gifts. In one sense it is very simple, we are all given spiritual gifts to build up the community of faith. We…

    Water

Water. It is one of the critical things for survival. We can live for about three days without water. We have to have it. Most civilizations arose around water – lakes, rivers, oceans – because if you have water, you can get the other things you need to live. Agriculture is impossible without water; water…
