Who doesn’t like gifts? I don’t think there are very many people who actually dislike gifts. This Sunday we are talking about gifts but a special kind of gift, namely spiritual gifts.
So what are spiritual gifts? They are the abilities the Holy Spirit gives each person to equip that person for service to God, most frequently in the context of a community of faith. They include faith, teaching, preaching, helping, giving, and much more.
The sermons today are trying to help us work through what it means to have a gift and how to exercise it. I have preached about spiritual gifts more than once before to these congregations so I may not spend enough time on defining what they are and how they work for some of you. If you would like to discuss this further, I’d be happy to do so, just drop me a line.
The sound of the Knox Presbyterian sermon is different than usual because there was a power failure in the middle of the Scripture lessons so there is none of the usual ambient noise. Just so you know.
