Don’t get captured?

A word of warning about today’s sermon: it is long compared to most of my sermons. That being said, it is less than eighteen minutes long, so hopefully not too long for anyone. I also talk about politics a bit in this sermon for which I do not apologize. The Bible contains no prohibition against talking/preaching about politics; or money, sexuality, justice, racism, or any other so-called hot topic.
The sermon is drawn from the Epistle reading, Colossians 2:6-19, and is my most recent attempt to wrestle with what it means to not be captured by any philosophy which is not following the Christ. I perhaps haven’t spoken enough about what it means to follow Jesus the Christ. I’m not going to preach another sermon in print but if my definition of philosophy is sufficient, i.e. a way of living your life, then I do not want to be captured by any philosophy that I cannot easily find in Jesus’ words as recorded in the Gospels. If my way of living my life is in opposition to the Sermon on the Mount, or the greatest commandment as declared by Jesus, to love the lord my God with all my heart, soul, and mind, and my neighbour as myself, then it is wrong. In some ways, it is pretty simple. However, if I’m not careful, I will type a sermon at you, so instead . . . give this Sunday’s sermon a listen and, as always, I would love to hear what you think about it. Let me know as you are able and inclined.
Blessings,
