Blessed in Christ

One of the things about the Lectionary is it is a three-year cycle. This was quite the revelation when I left the “free church” behind and moved to a Lectionary/liturgical church. Believe it or not, there was a time when I couldn’t imagine preaching from the same four texts every three years. What if I repeated myself? What if I said everything I had to say about them the first time? [Feel free to imagine me either shaking my head in embarrassment or snorting in derision.]
I eventually realized no one would remember what I preached about three years ago, including me. And the thought of saying everything I had to say about any four texts is either the height of arrogance or a frank admission of a very shallow experience of Scripture. The last time I preached on this Sunday’s texts I preached mostly about dignity. This time I went more for the Ephesians’ notion of being blessed in Christ and then ended up talking a lot about dignity . . . guess I had more to say about dignity after all.
As always, let me know what you think as you are inclined and able.
Blessings,
