What makes a saint?

What makes a saint?

Today isn’t actually All Saints Day, but it is All Saints Sunday. I’m sure there are lectionary purists or specialists who would abominate this, but the world in which we live doesn’t have the same connection to the church year that it once did. We can fulminate against it as much as we like, but it is unlikely the world is going to change for us.

So what does it mean to be celebrating All Saints Day a day late, or on All Souls Day if you want to be lectionarily technical? What it meant to me was an opportunity to think about what makes a saint. There is some of my own history in this sermon; it is mostly at the beginning and not too long, which informed my understanding of the word “saint.” It informed my understanding into error, but that’s what time and growth are for.

Give the sermon a listen and let me know if I explained what makes a saint or if I missed the mark.
