What changes?

We all change. I have heard it said that it is when we stop changing that we begin to die. I’m not entirely sure about that but it does add a bit of encouragement to be open to change.

The three texts the Lectionary has given us are all about change. They aren’t the most obvious texts addressing change but I was very interested to see how they do.

I know the Holy Spirit is always at work but sometimes the nudge into a particular topic is unmistakeable. This is one of those times. If it was up to me I might have preached on Thomas, the twin. I have preached more than once from the Gospel lesson and doubt is a good topic and this is a good text but I found myself consistently nudged in a different direction. So . . . change it is.

I hope you find value in the sermon and if you feel so inclined and able, let me know what you think.

Some of them are more helpful than others, for example, some of the more rural metaphors can be difficult for urban folks to grasp. The metaphor we worked with today is from St. Peter’s first letter and is building material, particularly stones….
