We don’t get to say

This is another Liturgical year so we are have another opportunity to think about Jesus’ baptism. This is one of the trickier Sundays of the year because there aren’t any definitive answers as to why Jesus was baptized, at least not definitive for me. I must confess that I wasn’t looking forward to this Sunday but when I looked and thought about the texts I realized there was an aspect I had never explored. There is something fundamentally presumptuous, if perhaps unintentionally so, about John saying that he shouldn’t be baptizing Jesus but it should be the other way around. This got me thinking about the entire problem of us telling Jesus what he should do.

A short note about the sound quality of the recordings, especially Knox. I am continuing to tinker with the recordings to some small effect but I am not a sound tech in any sense of the word. So, when I saw about getting rid of the hum in the Knox recording I got rid of it but at the cost of some of the frequencies that make me a) sound like me; and, b) intelligible. If anyone has a terrifically simple solution, I’d be happy to give it a go.
