Joy?

Who doesn’t want joy? Why would I put a question mark after such a positive and lovely word?
It all comes back to our Hebrews text for this Sunday, in particular, from the very end of the reading. We might miss the word after listening to all those faith-filled people in the recitation that precedes it, but “joy” is there. The last part of the last verse of the reading for this Sunday is, “who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2b NRSV)
This Sunday, I wanted us to look at joy as something to focus on when we are going through difficult times. It’s a bit more complex than that but that more or less sums it up. As always, let me know what you think as you’re able and inclined.
