Does it matter what we know?
We know a lot of things. I can say that about virtually any adult and certainly about any adult I know. We know what time we need to be at work, how much we can spend on groceries, our middle name, all sorts of things. But what don’t we know? You might not know my middle name but is that really important? Of course, it isn’t.
This Sunday’s sermon arose from Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonian Christians. The passage in question is Thessalonians 5:1-11 (click to read it in NRSV). I’m not sure I did the passage justice because the sermon sort of turned into a sermon on Jesus’ response to a lawyer in Matthew 22. What I hope I was able to communicate is that while there is a lot we don’t know, if we remember we know the things that really matter we’ll be okay.
